Montana Sage Grouse Oversight Team

The Montana Sage Grouse Oversight Team (MSGOT) oversees the administration of Montana's Habitat Conservation Program located at the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC). Individual members implement Montana's Sage Grouse Conservation Strategy through their respective agencies and programs.

The Montana Sage Grouse Oversight Team also fulfills duties outlined in the Sage Grouse Stewardship Act, passed during the 2015 Montana Legislature (SB 261). The purpose of the Stewardship Act is to provide competitive grant funding and establish free market mechanisms for voluntary, incentive-based conservation measures that emphasize maintaining, enhancing, restoring, expanding and benefitting vital sage grouse habitats and populations on private lands, and public lands as needed.
